「山本薩夫名作集」英語字幕付き日本上映会を開催

　日本文化紹介活動のひとつとして、日本映画に外国語字幕を付けて海外における上映に提供する国際交流基金が、日本国内で行うその上映会を２月２日（土）～３日（日）の２日間、東京・赤坂のOAGホールにて開催する。

　2004年より行われている同基金による英語字幕付日本映画の上映会だが、第９回目となる今回は「Rediscovery of Yamamoto Satsuo～山本薩夫名作集」として開催。社会派ドラマから娯楽映画まで幅広く手がけ、真摯な社会的メッセージをもつ傑作を作り出す巨匠・山本薩夫監督の名作５本を上映する。
　市川雷蔵、若尾文子、田宮二郎、仲代達矢ら豪華キャストによる演技も大きな見どころのひとつとなり、いま再評価の機運の高まっている山本監督の日本社会のある断面を切り取る名作が、存分に楽しめるプログラムになっている。

　この上映に加えて、映画評論家クリス・フジワラ氏を迎えての講演も行われる。海外の視点から捉えた山本監督作品の魅力について語る。

Film event offering prints subtitled in English “Rediscovery of YAMAMOTO Satsuo” Japan Foundation has been showing subtitled Japanese films overseas as part of its efforts to introduce Japanese culture to the world, and it is holding screenings in Japan on February 2 (Sat.) and 3 (Sun.) at The OAG Hall, Akasaka, Tokyo. Since 2004, it has been holding these film events offering prints subtitled in English. At this 9th event, “Rediscovery of YAMAMOTO Satsuo,” five excellent works by director Yamamoto Satsuo will be shown. Yamamoto undertook a wide range of works, from left-leaning social dramas to purely entertaining films. Many turned out to be masterpieces with earnest messages. Stellar performances by such actors as Ichikawa Raizo, Wakao Ayako, Tamiya Jiro and Nakadai Tatsuya also make these films very special. Yamamoto’s strong works expose certain aspects of the Japanese Society, and they deserve second look, after a period of quasi-neglect. In addition to the screenings, film critic, Chris Fujiwara, will discuss the strength of Yamamoto’s films from an international point of view.
